Yannik Collin, the Canadian actor who now lives in Los Angeles, has been pretty busy in the last couple of years. He came to California to be an actor and has succeeded where many others before him have failed. His story is quite interesting, just like he is. He loved movies as a kid and would watch many of them over and over to see how they were made and to observe the actors and their techniques. He told us that he must have watched James Cameron’s Avatar over twenty times, which reminded him that he wanted to see it again.
Passion for movies and all things acting isn’t the only thing Yannik has in common with actors like Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio and the rest of his Hollywood peers. Yannik understands, like they do, that money isn’t what a person’s goal should be when he or she becomes an actor. He feels that one must love acting for itself and do it for the pleasure of acting. He says that whenever you get into a role or a character, you are entering into what could be an entirely new emotional landscape. You’re not only taking on someone else’s emotions but you are pulling emotions out of yourself that you might not have realized you had with in you. Reaching those new emotional horizons are thrilling and revelatory for all actors and many times the experience leads them to become more understanding of their fellow human beings, which can lead to becoming more empathetic and compassionate, also.
One big thrill for Yannik, early in his career was signing with two agencies to represent him professionally. That bolstered his confidence because he realized that the agents thought of him as a good actor. Their confidence in him inspired his self-confidence. Even though Yannik is an established and well-grounded actor, he doesn’t take anything for granted. He tells aspiring actors to do the same. He also suggest to them that they should not be lazy and push ahead if they want to be successful as actors. He also says to never give up – no matter what! Everybody goes through some rough times, he says, but at some point – you’re going to have your moment to shine.
