We recently caught up with Australian actor Simon Acok from the TV show ‘Satisfaction and ‘Deadly Women’. He was happy to share his experiences in the world of acting, as well as some of his favorite roles to play so far. Here is what he had to say:
Please introduce yourself to the readers and how and when did you first get into performing?
Hi there great to meet you, I’ve been acting for many years since high school. It wasn’t probably till after college as I also played basketball at a high level, that I decided I wanted to make a career out of acting.
What inspired you to get into the entertainment industry?
I’ve always loved TV and film and I was always the drama guy at school who had to be noticed when I walked in a room. I always let my opinions be displayed. That’s what made me attracted to theatre, I was very good at it, as I loved to show off. I was also an avid film watcher. I would watch all the films from action blockbusters with Will Smith and I was into films with Al Pacino, to horror slashers and comedies. I love the variety.
What kind of training have you had, if any?
I was professionally trained by Victoria College of the Arts, which is one of the best acting schools in Australia.
What has been your favorite role to play so far?
I would have to say my most recent role playing an army veteran in the “Deadly Women” TV show. There was so many layers to this character, having coming back from the army to relationship problems with his partner leading to his death, which was very emotional for me.
What has been one of the most exciting achievements of your career so far?
I would say when I booked one of my first major roles on the TV show “Satisfaction”, working with an incredibly talented cast and incredible director was a blast! it helped me grow as an actor and the whole experience went by so quick, it was a shame the show didn’t continue!
What projects do you have coming up?
I have a pilot coming up and my TV show that I was in ” Deadly Women” has just launched their season 10, which has my episode on it.
Who would you most like to work with?
Wow that’s tough! I’d love to work with Denzel Washington, he is amazing in every role he does. But there are so many! Will Smith is a favorite of mine, Tom Cruise and Al Pacino also, and director wise Spike Lee, Martin Scorsese and of course, Quentin Tarantino!
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to continue my success in TV first, but as I did several films earlier in my career, I would love to go back to working in film. That has always been a goal of mine and to continue picking great projects that showcase my talent and display me at my best.
What is your advice to aspiring performers?
Always believe in yourself and never give up! Take steps each year to improve in any way you can and most importantly, make sure you have some fun also!!
