WE RECENTLY CAUGHT UP WITH RENOWNED JAPANESE RHYTHM GUITARIST HISAKO OZAWA ABOUT SOME OF HER EXCITING NEWS INCLUDING; AN UPCOMING GIG WITH HER BAND “PARADISE KITTY” FOR THE “MONSTERS OF ROCK CRUISE” IN 2016. THIS CRUISE WILL ALSO FEATURE THE LEGENDARY STEVE VAI AS WELL AS ROCK BAND EXTREME. HERE IS WHAT HISAKO HAD TO SHARE WITH US:
What inspired you to get into this industry?
I decided to pursue music when I saw one of my closest friends playing on stage. She was playing with all her heart and soul. I realized how powerful and beautiful music can be.
What kind of training have you had, if any?
In 2011, I left Japan to attend the world renowned Musicians Institute in Hollywood. Studying at MI, I learned music theory and a great deal about other styles of music aside from rock. MI made me a more capable and humble musician. I was awarded the Most Outstanding Student award in 2013.
What has been your favorite gig to play so far?
My band Paradise Kitty enjoyed a residency at the Viper Room for the month of September. I play rhythm guitar so my role is to keep the shows rockin’ and holding down the groove with my fellow band mates. It’s really high energy and it is definitely my favorite gig.
What has been one of your biggest achievements in your career so far?
I’ve played in venues all over LA including the famous House of Blues , Hard Rock Cafe, the Viper Room, Saint Rocke, Club Moscow as well as playing at numerous private parties and corporate events such as The LA Cancer Challenge, Manhattan Beach Concert in the Park, American Honda, Norco Festival, Banning Museum in front of about 4000 people. I’ve played over 100 shows in this past year. Now I belong to three bands, one of which is featured on Country 105 FM, Suicide Girls Radio. Also one of the bands, Side Effect has a song “ About you “ that enjoyed being the #1 song in Poland for 9 weeks in a row on the Radio Lublin Hit Chart.
What type of musical projects do you have coming up?
Recently Paradise Kitty was booked for The Monsters of Rock Cruise 2016. This is a huge rock event headlined by Extreme, Steve Vai, and Tesla. I am so excited to play there. This is a big opportunity for us. We’ve only been a band for 6 months!
Who would you most like to work with?
Anybody who loves music and is serious about music.
What are your plans for the future?
Traveling around world playing music is my dream. I also want to keep playing as much as I can and keep improving as a musician.
What is your advice to aspiring performers?
Do your best with what you’ve got. One opportunity leads to the next and also, don’t get discouraged.
