We recently spoke to actress Melanie Ward about her incredible acting career and who she would most love to work with in the future. Here is what she had to share with Celebrity Talk Australia:
Please introduce yourself to the readers and how and when did you first get into performing?
Hey guys! My name’s Melanie Ward and I’m an Australian actress living in Los Angeles. I began performing extremely early in my life. When I was two years old I started dancing. I pressured my mother into taking me to get a talent agent at ten and then began acting and modelling.
Who were some of your biggest inspirations?
Comedic acting is my passion, so growing up my biggest inspirations were Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Isla Fisher.
What kind of training have you had, if any?
I’ve completed acting training consistently throughout the last ten years. In Australia, I’ve studied at multiple institutions including NIDA, The Actors Centre and Sydney Screen Acting Group. In Los Angeles, I’ve trained predominantly in comedy at Groundlings Improvisation School. I’ve also studied Screen Acting and stand up comedy. Aside from acting, I have a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Primary teaching degree.
What has been your favorite role to play so far?
My favorite role that I have played so far has by no means been my biggest role, but it was definitely the most fun. It was a supporting role for a comedy TV show called ‘AZIO: The Bogan Spy Agency’. I love playing ridiculous, comedic roles that are very far from who I am. In this instance, I played a goon-drinking, stripper who was a killer. It was a blast!
What has been one of your biggest achievements in your career so far?
Last year was probably my biggest and most exciting year so far. I completed four feature films in Australia, various short films, TV shows, television commercials and music videos.
What projects do you have coming up?
At the moment, I’m in the middle of writing a comedy webseries, which I’m extremely excited about. I’ve been booked for a music video, commercial and a short film that will be filming soon. I’ve also been in talks with a few directors regarding upcoming feature films.
Who would be your ideal co-star and why?
My ideal co-star would be Melissa McCarthy. She is such a talented comedic actress and working with her would be a dream come true. I’m so excited about the sudden influx of all women comedians and I would love to be a part of a strong female cast such as the one in ‘Bridesmaids’.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to continue acting, comedy and writing in Sydney and Los Angeles. I will keep working hard and progressing in my career, engaging in work that challenges and excites me.
What is your advice to aspiring performers?
Don’t spend your life preparing yourself. Get out there and do short films, amateur theatre and anything else that allows you to be seen.
