The entertainment industry is one of those industries where the performance speaks volumes about the passion and interests of the artist. The films and television series are truly a wonderful source of entertainment as they take us to a different world with their fantastic creations. But what is essential to understand here, is that apart from the acting, there are other areas also that play an equally important role in film making and in television also. We are talking about the editors who through their creativity make such amazing films and television works. One such talented editor is Bec Blomberg from Australia who is fast becoming an accomplished film and television editor.
Bec got into production through a local TV show which was shot on the Gold Coast, in Queensland, Australia. It was a police detective drama series similar to ‘CSI Miami’ but didn’t do quiet as well. She was still studying at university at the time but her passion for creativity made her take this work which she did for free. She continued with her enthusiasm and got her first paid job on a popular Australian drama TV series filmed in far North Quensland. Once she had a taste for this life, there was no looking back.
She has done some remarkable work in the past four years including short films, feature films, music videos, documentaries, and so on. Her latest work has been on the short film, ‘Thank you For Shopping Starmart’, filmed entirely in Hawaii, about a company who brain-washes orphans to spread the gospel of their multi-national corporation. Before this, Bec edited a documentary for well know Australian artist, Tony Rice, about how he uses the plastics pulled up from the ocean and beach to create beautiful art. Bec has also worked on many music videos like ‘’Weight of the World by Amy Shark’, ‘Beautiful Night by Francesca De Valance’ and ‘Water by Cool Calm Collective’. Her personal favorite production is her experience working on the Australian thriller ‘Crawl’ A feature film shot on the Gold Coast about a seedy bar owner who hires a mysterious Croatian to commit murder, but a planned double-crossing backfires when a young waitress is taken hostage. She highly appreciates those with whom she worked with and the experience she has gained.
Bec has been trained by the best from all her work as an assistant editor on various television series around the world. Her most recent job was on the popular UK celebrity dance show; ‘Dancing on Ice’. She has also done work on ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get me out of Here’, ‘Big Brother’ and ‘Underbelly Razor’. There is a lot of work in reality TV in Australia, however Bec does not want to get too comfortable in that line of work. She has her sights set on the more creative area of feature films and TV series. Bec was also employed at a Post-Production house for almost two years where she dealt a lot with TV commercials and corporate videos. She started at the company serving coffee and slowly worked her way up to digital media specialist and editor.
As far as her education is concerned, she graduated from Bond University on the Gold Coast and she holds a Bachelor of Film and Television. She also completed a Certificate 4 in Film & Television from Southbank Institute of TAFE in Brisbane.
She has planned a few projects for the next couple of months and at the end of the year she will be returning to work on a popular UK reality TV show. Bec looks up to female filmmakers like Nancy Meyers and Nora Ephron. She is inspired by the works of female editors like Alsia Lepselter, Maryann Brandon, Dede Allen, Thelma Schoonmaker and Mary Jo Markey. She would like to be part of something like Gilmore Girls. She looks out for a superb script, dedicated crew members and inspiring projects. She looks forward to working with many talented filmmakers in the future.
