The world of entertainment through its different genres provides us with some breath-taking performances. One genre which has some outstanding artists and brings out laughter amongst the audience is the comedy genre. Comedy provides us with ample entertainment and some entertainers are so good that we could watch their performances again and again. One such brilliant actor from Australia is Leigh Smith who got into performing at a young age. For Leigh, his first lead role was in his school production “Kids in Paradise” in which he played the role of a kooky witch Dr called “Gunja”. There was no looking back for this talented artist from here and he fell in love with performing when the “Walt Disney World” International Program was undertaken by him.
Leigh came back to Australia and started intensive studying in the field of acting and soon landed as a lead presenter on a network television show named “Media Strikes Back” and also other roles in Australian television shows like “Neighbours” and “Winners and Losers”. His theatre credits cover “Pirates of Penzance”, “The Boyfriend” and he has hosted children’s showcase “Make Your Mark” in LA. This accomplished performer has also appeared in commercials that include a Kmart Wishing Tree Campaign, High Street Armadale and a Canon XIY Commercial.
What is noteworthy about this dedicated performer is the kind of training he has also undergone. Leigh did most of his training at the Television and Film Academy of Australia which is directed by John Orcisk. Here, he learned a lot through many classes and workshops and feels that this has changed the way he acts a great manner. Leigh feels this institution has enabled him to come out of his shell and aside from working with the best in the Australian entertainment industry, this has also prepared him to meet the challenges that lie ahead for him. He has studied under the guidance of some of the top directors, casting directors and professionals within the Australian and International scene, and worked with renowned vocal coach Stephen Costan. Leigh has also completed acting workshops in Los Angeles at Stella Adler Academy.
He draws inspiration from the works of Melissa McCarthy, Kristin Wiig, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph and Leslie Mann. His personal favorite role is that of “Mr Smith” which was of a headstrong comedic character. He also enjoyed being a lead presenter on “Media Strikes Back”. He feels thankful for the opportunity that he got to interview the best of the best in the Melbourne arts scene. Presently, he is looking to return to hosting areas while continuing to audition for roles locally. He also plans to head to the US and continue pursuing his career.
He is so very much inspired by the talent and humor of Melissa McCarthy and considers this brilliant artist as one of his ideal co-stars. Leigh is amongst those who very well know what they want to pursue in life and hence for the future he wishes to focus on acting.
