Beau Middlebrook is one of those ultra-fit guys who has good looks and a lot of talent. He has used his talent and good looks to dance and act his way through many satisfying theatre jobs, one of which was an amazing seven-month stint on the Disney Dream cruise ship.
One of the nice things about working with Disney is they are very organized (to say the least). They are known to only hire the best in the business, so when Beau rocked up to the NYC auditions, they just had to have him. This extensive process took place over two days with hundreds of performers competing for the chance to work for ‘The Mouse’. With his flawless technique and individual style, Beau was able to stand out to the panel of judges and was soon on his way to Toronto for rehearsals. Over the eight week rehearsal period, Beau was able to work with some of today’s most extraordinary choreographers including, critically acclaimed, Gordon Greenberg and the award winning composer Kirsten Childs. When setting the shows the choreographers pull upon each performer’s individual strengths. Beau has many strengths and has used several of them in the three main stage shows that the troop performed on the cruise line.
Besides terrific dancing in general, tumbling was one of Beau’s skills that stood out to the choreographers. His tumbling was featured in several of the shows scenes including the famous Mary Poppins rooftop dance ‘Step in Time’ and ‘Son of Man’ from Tarzan. He also did the stage fights, sword fighting and free fall stunt work, which made his job just a little more interesting than the typical man on the street.
However, working for Disney wasn’t all glitz and glamour. With no full days off for the entirety of the seven month contact, Beau had to maintain his physical and mental well being whilst on board. This involved following a strict routine where everything from gym time to meal time to nap time was scheduled. However, Beau says it was all worth it, for there’s no better feeling than putting on that show face and performing live to thousands of people.
Beau is a true professional and working for Disney was an incredible experience for him. He was able to meet new friends, travel the world and do what he loves the most.
